What Happens in a Robotics Class?

A typical Robotics League class looks nothing like a school lesson. There's no sitting at a desk copying notes. From the moment students arrive, they're building, testing and problem-solving — usually with LEGO® Education kits that produce real, moving machines by the end of every session.

Here's a rough breakdown of what a standard 60-minute class looks like:

  1. Warm-up challenge (10 min) — a quick brain-teaser or build puzzle to get students thinking laterally
  2. Concept introduction (10 min) — the instructor introduces the session's engineering or coding concept
  3. Build and code (35 min) — students work on their robots, writing and testing code to make the machine complete a specific task
  4. Demo and debrief (5 min) — students show what they built, discuss what worked and what didn't

No two sessions cover the same challenge. Over a term, students work through a structured curriculum that builds mechanical and coding complexity week by week.

Three Age Groups, One Pathway

Ages 4–6

Robotics Little League

LEGO® DUPLO and Coding Express. Sequencing, cause-and-effect, fine motor skills — disguised as play. 45-minute weekly classes.

Ages 7–13

Robotics Army

SPIKE Prime and block coding. Students take on WRO-style challenges and can join our national competition squads. 60-minute weekly classes.

Ages 14–19

Robotics Innovators

LEGO® meets Raspberry Pi meets 3D printing. Python code, custom chassis, and a pathway to WRO Future Engineers. 2-hour weekly classes.

New students are placed in the right group based on age and prior experience. If your child has never touched a robot before, that's completely fine — every group regularly welcomes first-timers.

Both venues are purpose-fitted for group robotics sessions — tables large enough for build projects, projectors for code demonstrations, and all kits stored on-site. Students don't carry any equipment home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to know how to code before starting?

No. All three programmes start from scratch. The Little League programme doesn't involve any screen-based coding at all — it's entirely physical and tactile. The Army programme begins with the most beginner-friendly block coding language available before gradually introducing more complexity.

What if my child falls behind or finds it too easy?

Classes are structured so that instructors can adjust the difficulty of each student's challenge in real time. Students who race ahead get extension challenges; those who need more time on a concept get additional support without the group moving on without them.

Can my child join mid-term?

Yes. Enrolment is open year-round. New students who join mid-term are given a brief catch-up session in their first class to get them up to speed.

Is this suitable for girls?

Absolutely. Roughly half of our student base is female, and we actively work to make sure all students — regardless of gender — feel equally at home in the classroom. Robotics and engineering belong to everyone.
